A Case of Subacute Necrotizing Lymphadenitis with Pancytopenia

Abstract

|
Subacute necrotizing lymphadenitis has now become recognized In many parts of the
world as a well -defined clinicopathologic entity. It typically affects cervical lymph
nodes of young women, and subsides spontaneously within a few months without
recurrences.
But there was a few reports on pancytopenia combined with subacute necrotizing
lymphadenitis. We report the case of a 41-year-old female with persistent fever for 2
months and multiple lymph node enlargement on right lateral neck with pancytopenia. A
bone marrow aspiration and biopsy was normal.
Blood, urine, throat, stool and bone marrow cultures were negative.
Right lateral neck lymph node was excised. The histologic finding was compatible
with subacute necrotizing lymphadenitis. The patient became afebrile on the 9th hospital
day with corticosteroid administration. She has been well after discharge.
